During the planning phase of this project, there were a record-breaking number of objections from the neighbors. However, we were able to overcome this hurdle by implementing a considered intervention that took into account planning policy. As a result, the project was unanimously passed at committee. In order to mitigate the impact of the two-story building on the site, we decided to sink half of the building by 1200mm. This decision ensured that there was no impact on privacy, daylight, or overshadowing, and that neighboring amenity was unaffected.
Despite our success in addressing the concerns of the neighbors, the client ultimately decided to flip the site. Unfortunately, this means that the project was never realized. However, we are confident that the thoughtful and careful planning that went into this project will serve as an example for future projects.
